Discipleship Education for Youth
Older youth may choose from a number of opportunities to worship, learn and serve and are encouraged to participate in the full life of the community of faith. As choir members, teaching assistants, committee members and in mission, we seek to challenge and equip our youth to be actively engaged. These young disciples have many occasions to participate and grow including Wednesday School.
Wednesday School
For more than thirty years high school students have gathered for supper and faith exploration on Wednesday nights during the school year. For students in Grades 9-12, adult teachers provide activities and engage students in conversation designed to nurture and challenge faith. Exposure to Christian spiritual practices enables young disciples to strengthen moral development and inform personal decision making. Off campus field trips expose students to a variety of ways to be faithful in the world and engage students in local missions. Confirmation education is a unique part of the Wednesday school experience.
Confirmation Education
Confirmation at South Church is a rite of passage from adolescence to adulthood. Students spend their sophomore year addressing their pressing theological questions, exploring the nature of Scripture, delving into the mystery of prayer, pondering the identity of Jesus, and naming those personal spiritual gifts they can claim and use in the future to build the Body of Christ.
